Breaking: Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Reserves Judgment
By Jide Afolabi, Jos
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has reserved judgment to a date to be communicated to all the parties.
The PDP and its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are challenging the election of President Muhamamdu Buhari at the tribunal.
The Petitioners are urging the tribunal to declare Atiku Abubakar as the validly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the Presidential election held in February 2019.
In the alternative, the Petitioners are urging the tribunal to annul the election for breaching the Electoral Act 2010 as amended and INEC’s guidelines and order a fresh election.
The Petitioners, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and it’s Presidential candidate in the election, Atiku Abubakar had called 62 witnesses to prove their case while the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, called none but President Muhammadu Buhari called 7 witnesses in his defence.
The 5-Man Panel is headed by Justice Mohammed Garba.
