OSCOTECH Ex-Students Proffer Solution To Insecurity In Nigeria

Ex-students of Osun State College Of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa-Oke, Osun state have called on the Federal Government to consider the idea of community policing for the purpose of technical intelligence gathering to effectively combat crime in Nigeria.
The group condemned the spate of insecurity in the country, saying there was the need to complement the efforts of the police through by engaging people of different communities in policing their domain.
The old students made the appeal at a press conference organised in Osogbo, the Osun State capital to ventilate their concerns over the incessant acts of kidnappings and robbery in the state and Nigeria at large.
The event was organised as part of activities heralding group’s 4th Bi-annual event, scheduled to begin on Thursday 20th, June, 2019, with the theme: “Insecurity, The Bane of Our Economic Development”.
Speaking through its Organizing Secretary, Abdulghaniyy Adekunle kareem, the group opined that with the rising cases of insecurity and crime in the country, the time was ripe for states to have their own police.
He said their mission is to give back to their Alma Mata in order to enhance sports development so as to inspire future generations adding that through their activities, they have been able to bring management and the students to engage each another in a cordial environment.
He added that students should know that insecurity is a problem affecting the country and also the economic development of the nation.
Speaking in the same vein, the group’s Co-ordinator Administration, Adegbenga Onaneye, explained that the alumni was trying its best to improve on the welfare of the students through the school’s management.
Onaneye further explained that they have made numerous contributions towards the development of their Alma Mata amongst which includes the provision of sports equipment.
He said the event was postponed from 2018 to this year because of security challenges in which a staff of the institution was killed last year while several others were abducted.
Onaneye said the event woukd kick off on Thursday 20th June, 2019 with a novelty football match and end on Friday 21st June, 2019 with a medical camp programme, finals of the Rector’s Cup and Gala Night at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the institution in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
