2019: We Will Not Do Anything To Compromise Nigeria’s Army Integrity, Says Brigadier-General Ataguba

In a build up to the 2019 general elections, the Commander 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier-General James Ataguba, has reassured the general public not to be partisan saying that they would not relent in their efforts in ensuring security of lives and properties in collaboration with other securities agencies in order to have a successful and peaceful elections in Ondo state.
“We must ensure that we are apolitical in the discharge of our duties. Particularly during this electioneering period. We will not do anything that will compromise the integrity of Nigeria Army, we are going to abide by the code of conduct being given to us from our headquarters”.
Ataguba stated this at the weekend during the Brigade West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Owena Cantonment in Akure, Ondo state capital.
The purpose of the West African Social Activities according to him, was to mark the end of activities for a calendar year which has been originated from the days of the RWAFF where dates were set aside to allow the soldiers display the rich culture heritage from their respective countries.
He further, “it is an avenue for the brigade officers, soldiers and our dear families to come together, wine and dine together to celebrate an extraordinary year 2018 for the brigade”.
Ataguba who urged all officers and soldiers of the brigade to face their task with the utmost professionalism saying that, “as we begin the year 2019, I would like to remind us all of the COAS vision which is to, have a professionally responsive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles”.
His words, “As I speak to you our soldiers and men of other security agencies are in the bushes running after criminals. Within the cantonment, we have witnessed unprecedented development strides.
“I would also like to thank all my officers and men for the contributions they have made to the success achieved by the brigade so far”.
Speaking at the event, the Ekiti state governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi said that people should protect their votes, urging the soldiers to work with the winning team for the continuity of President Muhammadu Buhari in office.
Fayemi who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matter and Coordinator of the Rapid Response Squad, Brigadier-General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd) however advised the Nigeria Army to conduct themselves according to the code of conduct of the elections adding that those that would be on duty as security personnel during the elections should do it diligently in order to have smooth elections.
At the event, gifts and awards of excellent were given to the best students, staff and officers of the brigade.
