CPC Tasks Consumers To Consider Safety, Security Before Buying Smart Products
The Consumer Protection Council (CPC), now known as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), has called on consumers to consider safety and security of smart products before procuring or buying them.
Alhaji Shitu Garba, the South-West Zonal Coordinator of FCCPC, made this called through a press statement signed by the commission’s Head of Consumer Education Department, Mrs Abimbola Ailemen and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Tuesday.
According to Garba, any smart product a consumer wants to buy must be sufficiently secured by limiting access to only personalized usernames, passwords and enhanced multiple level of authentication.
He also said such smart product must comply with or surpass prevailing standards for safety, support after sales service in terms of repairs and parts replacement and also come with good battery.
He said the call became important in the light of substandard products (especially phones and electronic gardgets) in the market, the menace which he said the commission was seriously tackling and battling to eradicate.
He said in observing the World Consumer Right Day, the commission on Thursday took to the streets and markets in Osogbo to sensitize the public and consumers on the need to always patronize and buy standard products.
He said the risks in purchasing sub-standard products were also explained to them and that the campaign was later moved to radio and television stations in the state, where enlightenment were give on various rights and obligations of the consumers(NAN)
