UNIOSUN, Others Empower Youths In Osun

The management of Osun State University, in collaboration with Government of Nigeria Youth Empowerment & Social Support Operation (YESSO) and National Directorate of Employment Skills for Job (NDE-S4J) have embarked on intensive capacity training for teeming unemployed youths in the state.

The 90-day empowerment programme was organized for the total of 612 youths across Osun, who were to be trained in Life skills, Sector-specific Skills and entrepreneurship lessons.

The programme, which was declared open by the Osun State Governor , Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, who was ably represented by Prof. Yinusa, on 25th September 2019 has afforded participants an opportunity to learn in a serene environment with adequate provision for all their material needs, including shelter and learning materials.

Recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria through the assistance of the World Bank introduced the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) to provide economic security through income support, and access to employment opportunities for the poor and vulnerable youth and women.

Meanwhile, the third cycle of the Skills for job training is scheduled to be delivered at three levels, namely :Life Skills, Sector-Specific, and Entrepreneurship skills training.

According to the organisers, through Life Skills training, beneficiaries are to be assisted with skills to identify their goals in life and also sensitize them on communication skills, interview skills, opportunities on social media platforms among others, while the Sector-Specific Skills training would enable the participants to understand skills available within the growth sectors that are highly demanded.

Also, the Entrepreneurship skills training would expose them to cutting-edge knowledge for running a successful business in Nigeria.
