By Jide Afolabi, Jos
The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau State Command, has advised car owners in the state to safeguard their vehicles with pedal or steering locks, fuel cut system in addition to the tracking devices to prevent theft.
The Command made the advice in a press release issued today, Wednesday in Jos, the Plateau state capital by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Mathias Terna. A copy of the release was sent to CityMirrorNews.
Tyopev observed that the few cases of car theft from where they were parked were a result of negligence on the part of the owner saying that most affected cars were Honda and Toyota products.
The statement read in part:
“The types of vehicles mostly affected are Toyota and Honda products whose locks and keys are easily manipulated by criminal. Moreover, the demand for these vehicles by criminal receivers is high and disposal prices attractive to the car thieves. This is not to say that other vehicles are not the target of the thieves.
“The Command, therefore, wishes to advise vehicle owners in the state to take minimum security measures in safeguarding their vehicles by getting for themselves either pedal or steering locks, fuel cut system in addition to the tracking devices.
“The Command also advised owners of event centres, amusement parks, eateries, etc to apply for Police security when they envisage high turnout of people for activities they are organizing. This will ensure that the security at such venues is tight and the activities of the miscreants are minimized”.
The PPRO said that the Command will continue to work assiduously to ensure safety and security of the citizens at all times especially during the ember months.
