By Jide Afolabi, Jos
The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Elections Security (ICCES) and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Plateau state today, Saturday held an emergency meeting at the Plateau State Police Command Headquarters in Jos.
The committee addresses the press after the meeting. While speaking, the Chairman of the committee, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Isaac Olutayo Akinmoyede said, “The postponement is unfortunate but it is just a sacrifice to make. Protection of sensitive and nonsensitive materials is key to us. We don’t want people to be disenfranchised. The materials will get to RAC late if distributed.
“We will have a meeting tonight with all Chairmen of political parties and Civil Society Organisations, CSOs.” He stated. This will follow a stakeholders meeting holding in Abuja by 2 pm today.
While commenting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state said “We have heard the reasons why the election was postponed. It was because of inadequacies in logistics and materials.”
When asked if the Commission has lost financially, the REC answered in affirmative, “Yes”.
The elections were postponed earlier in the day by a week by INEC citing logistics challenges as the primary reason for the postponement.
