Just In: Suspended CJN Onnoghen Finally Bows To Pressure, Arrives CCT For Trial

Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for his trial.

Recall that the embattled CJN had failed to show up at the CCT since it commenced the trial.

CityMirrorNews recalls that the CCT chairman, Danladi Umar, had on Wednesday, February 13, ordered Onnoghen’s arrest over his refusal to honour its invitation.

Umar issued the warrant to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Onnoghen and bring him to the tribunal unfailingly on Friday, February 15.

He also directed the director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to join in arresting the suspended CJN.
One of his lawyers had, however, told Channels Television that he was not arrested but decided to make himself available to the court.

Onnoghen is facing trial over alleged failure to declare some of his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The National Judicial Council (NJC) to continue deliberating on the preliminary assessment of an earlier panel in the petitions against Justice Walter Onnoghen, the suspended chief justice of Nigeria and the acting CJN, Justice Tanko Mohammed.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the NJC’s director of information, Soji Oye.

It was reported that the council met to receive the recommendation of the initial panel constituted to look into Onnoghen and Mohammed’s responses, and decided to probe further into the allegations against the two most senior justices.
