By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
The Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the Southwest has called on the Federal government to gear up efforts by securing the release of Leah Sharibu who is in the captivity of Boko Haram for the past four hundred and forty nine days.
The Southwest zone leadership of CAN also urged Nigerians not to relent in fervent prayers for the safe return on the girl.
The CAN in southwestern part of Nigeria converged in Akure, Ondo state capital on Tuesday to discuss issues of relevant importance to the peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.
They also engage in intercessory prayers on behalf of Leah Sharibu and to celebrate her sixteenth birthday today, (May 14th, 2019).
Speaking with journalists, the CAN Chairman in Ondo State, Rev. Dr John Ayo Oladapo expressed concern over the continuous kidnap of the innocent lady Leah Sharibu by Boko Haram for her refusal to denounce Christ.
Oladapo however commended the Federal government for its efforts to ensure the release of Leah Sharibu noting that more still needed to be done for her release.
“The life of the little girl who turns 16 today, is a challenge to all Christians who pay lip service to their service to God and humanity”, he said.
On his part, Ogun CAN Chairman, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya assured the family of Leah that hope is not lost on her release.
The Lagos CAN Chairman, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola urged Christians to emulate the faith of Leah whenever they were faced with tribulations.
Birthday cake was cut in commemoration of Leah’s birthday while prayer session was offered for the successful 2019 general election.
Different issues were discussed at the southwest meeting which was well attended by CAN chairmen and their Secretaries from Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Lagos and Ondo states.
