I’ll Preside Over An Assembly Nigerians Will Be Proud Of – Gbajabiamila

As the tussle for the leadership of the House of Assembly gathers momentum, Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the House of Representatives and a top contender for the position has promised to lead a House of Representatives that Nigerians and opposition party would be proud of.

Gbajabiamila who had in the last couple of weeks visited some states to seek support from elected members across party line during the election scheduled to hold today when the ninth Assembly would be officially Inaugurated.

The one-time minority leader at the green chamber had said in a programme on Channels television programme monitored in Lagos promised to deliver good leadership because he was probably the only one who had functioned as an opposition leader when he served as minority leader and had also worked as majority leader.

He stressed that since he had been in opposition he understood what it meant to be in the opposition, saying that was why he was determined to make the House, a House of reforms.

He maintained he would make the ninth Assembly a House of reforms where all the members would be beneficiaries and Nigerians would be greater beneficiaries for the deepening of the democratic process which according to him was what all the lawmakers had planned to achieve.

Gbajabiamila said, “I will lead an Assembly where the opposition will be proud to be in opposition and a House where the opposition will learn the act of opposition. I am the most qualified in the sense that I have occupied the position of opposition leader and I know how it feels to be in opposition.

“As a speaker of the House, I will understand the feelings of the opposition because I have been there before. I want to assure my colleagues that the ninth Assembly would be a House of reforms. It will be a House of several reforms and the beneficiaries of these reforms would be us and would be Nigerians,” he sai
