Osinbajo Tasks Nigerians To Be More Committed To National Unity

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday tasked Nigerians to be more committed to national unity and democratic development.
Osinbajo gave the charge during the funeral service of the founder of Oodua People’s Congress(OPC), Fredrick Fasheun at the Saint Stephen’s Anglican Cathedral Church, Oke Aluko, Ondo City, Ondo State.
The VP who described late Fasheun as a man who was committed to the unity of the country, adding that his legacy would be remembered for life.
He maintained that Late Fredrick Fasheun spent his lifetime and resources on the restoration of democracy through June 12 and the OPC.
His words, “It is an honour for me to register my condolence on Fasehun’s death. I learn a lot from Fasehun’s commitment as one of his close associates.
“He will be remembered for life for his role in founding the OPC. We will also remember him for the role he play during 1993 election and after.He suffered for 20 months at Ikoyi prison during Abacha regime.His legacy he left behind will be remembered for life.”
Also speaking, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state said the late Fasheun was a pro-democratic activist and nationalist who always expresses his mind no matter how controversial it would be.
Akeredolu disclosed that his contributions through OPC would remain indelible in the history of Yoruba race and the country at large.
In his sermon, the Archbishop of Ondo Province, Anglican Communion, Most Revd Gabriel Akinbiyi said death was inevitable irrespective of position or status.
The Bishop maintained that late OPC founder was a patriotic Nigerian who devoted his entire life for the liberation of his people regardless of religious and political affiliations.
Fasheun who died December 2018 at the age of 83 was survived by wife, six children and thirteen grandchildren.
