UI Lecturer Commits Suicide, Reportedly Set Himself Ablaze

Tragedy struck at the University of Ibadan as a Lecturer II in the Institution’s Department of Mathematics, reportedly committed suicide.
New Nigerian gathered that the said lecturer, who hailed from Kaduna State, identified as Subair set himself on fire on Monday afternoon in his senior staff quarters located at Phillipson road of the University.
Sources said the late Lecturer recently resigned from the University without a justifiable reason but was yet to evacuate his staff quarters before deciding to take his life. It was gathered that he had separated from his family as well as had challenges progressing on his carrier.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Deji Omole said ASUU was only informed of the burning flat while efforts to save him proved abortive. Professor Omole while describing the incident as pathetic said it was a major loss to the Union.
He, however urged ASUU members to confide in one another saying, isolation could deepen depression which may culminate in suicidal ideation.
The late Subair who was survived by three children has been buried at Akinyele public cemetery.
