Temlong, ADP Takes Guber Campaign to Wase
By Jide Afolabi, Jos
The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Brigadier General Jon Temlong (Rtd) has taken his door-to-door campaign to Wase Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The campaign train’s first point of call was the Emir of Wase palace where Temlong said it was a homecoming for him.
He said he was happy to be back home. Pointing to the road to his then house, Temlong said, “I was born here in Wase and grew up here. I was here to officially tell the Emir about my aspiration and today, I’m here to seek his royal blessings again and to speak to the people of Wase.”
He said that what the party have adopted was door-to-door campaign and not the usual elaborate one. He said that his vision was to restore peace to the state and fast-track its development.
In his response, the Emir of Wase, His Royal Highness, Dr Muhammad Sambo Haruna who was represented by the Waziri Wase, Alhaji Muhammad Badamasi Mahmud welcomed the team to Wase on behalf of the Emir. He said, “We have a long standing relationship with you. Whatever we can do to your success, we will do it. I will deliver your message to the Emir when he returns. Whatever you want from our people, you will get it from them. They will go with you for the door-to-door campaign. You have our support.”
The team left for Wase Town Hall where mammoth crowd gathered to welcome Temlong and the campaign team.
Temlong said that youths were the first in his government. He noted that he would organise Town Hall Meetings with a view to listen to community problems because he would adopt a bottom-up approach.
The guber candidate said that he would provide water to the communities and ensure irrigation system to boost agricultural production. He said, “we will provide loans to women. Construct roads, build and equip schools for our children, build and equip modern hospitals and provide water for the people.”
At Kadarko, the team visited Ponzhi Kadarko 1, HRH Lot Ndem where he congratulated the Ponzhi for what he described as a well deserved promotion to a second class traditional leader status. He noted that it was long overdue but better late than ever.
He said, “we are here to congratulate you and seek royal blessings and to talk to our people.
“I have three policy thrust. Security and sustainable peace, development and progress. We want to restore peace. This place can feed the whole of Plateau and even beyond but because of insecurity you can’t. You don’t have water. We saw children bathing inside water where people drink while coming here. Water comes first before road. We will come to you and you will tell us what you want in order of priority and we will do them”.
The Ponzhi appreciated the team for the visit and pledged his support to the success of the election.
