The Inspector General of Police Mohammed .A.Adamu,NPM on Monday commenced a one week visit to the South West where he was assured of full cooperation by the South West Governors who commended the efforts of security agents in the crusade against crime and criminality.
He also declared that without the cooperation of all stakeholders, the war against criminals would be an exercise in futility adding that the police and all good citizens should work together as a team.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State disclosed that he would release 100 vehicles for operational use to complement the efforts of security agents adding that it would mark his 100 days in office.
Governor Makinde In his welcome address, hinted that in the next few days ,a security road map would be put in place to sustain peace in the state adding that it would also look into any breach of fundamental human rights.
The Governor declared that peace and security of Yoruba people should be paramount in the minds of the governors adding that it would not be compromised for whatever reasons.
In a subtle way,the representative of the governor of Ekiti state called on the Nigeria Police to fish out the killer of Mrs Funke Olakunrin ,daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
The IGP in his address, noted that during” the first security summit, issues touching on banditry, kidnapping and sundry violent crimes were discussed, opinions aggregated, and new anti-crime pathways jointly evolved. “This is evidenced by the fact that since the meeting, the rate of these crimes has not only dropped drastically, several bandits have voluntary renounced crime, submitted their weapons and released several victims that had hitherto been kidnapped and held in their camps across the Zone.
“Our experience from the first security Summit stresses two fundamental facts in relation to policing and community safety. Firstly, it highlights the fact that we cannot proceed on an anti-crime war against criminal elements that are united in their determination to threaten our common values with a divided front.
“Hence, we must as a strategy, strengthen partnership among ourselves as a community on the one hand, and between the communities and the police on the other hand. The strength of this partnership and the commitment of all actors within the process will undoubtedly, influence the extent of success we can record against the
,”It is for this reason that I wish to sincerely appreciate the support of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde for volunteering to partner with us in hosting this Summit. Looking at the rich attendance at this meeting, I am convinced that our aim of convening the Summit can and shall be achieved. ,he added.
All other governors in the Zone were present during the summit which were also attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders and leaders of Hausa community
