Oyetola Lights Up Osun
In order to make Osun more secure, the Governor of the State, Gboyega Oyetola has given the ministry of works a marching order to restore street lights in the State capital and other major towns and cities in the State.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji disclosed this while inspecting the project, Operation Restore Street Lights.
Prince Oyebamiji explained that major streets in Osogbo such as Ola – Iya junction to Ogo Oluwa down to Abeere, Ola – Iya to Itaolokan, Oke fia to Government House, Ola Iya through Alekuwodo to Oke Fia, down to Dele Yes Sir areas have been lighted, while Old Garage to Machine Tools end of Ikirun road, Dele Yes Sir to Stadium, GRA, Abere to Akoda and the West Bye pass would be up within 2weeks.
He appealed to citizens to, besides regular payments of taxes, stay clear of destroying public property, as this is tantamount to development and progress.
The Coordinating Director, Ministry of Works, Engineer Soji Adeniji said the government was moving from the traditional yellow lamps to while LED lamps with longer life span, less energy consumption and cheap maintenance costs and solar power street light in some instances.
The Supervisor for Works and Transport in the State, Engr Remi Omowaiye added that the second phase of the Light Up Osun project will pick other towns thus covering the entire State.
He observed that in addition to beautifying the City at night, makes our environment more secured, the street lights will return night traders to their spots, restoring commercial and economic potential into night life.
