The Man, Tunde Kazeem Adewinmbi and Osun 2018 Politics

The people of Osun state would go to the polls in August this year  to elect a new governor. As a result, political climate is beginning to take shape with distinct aspirants from various political parties gradually disclosing their intentions.

The proposed local government elections scheduled to hold on January 27, 2018 barring any unforseen circumstances, has further charged the political environment.

Save for a few exceptions, Nigerians have not had the right voters education that could help in electing credible persons into the position of leadership. However, Osun has been lucky to elect great leaders like late Chief Bola Ige in the second republic, late Chief Isiaka Adeleke in the later aborted third republic and Chief Bisi Akande in the fourth republic.

However, electorates in the 2003 general elections preferred the former Lagos state military sole administrator, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to the then incumbent, Bisi Akande. In 2007 again, Osun people voted for continuity of good governance and the electoral umpire again, announced Oyinlola as the winner of the governorship election in the state.

Then, the legal battle was drawn between the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the announced winner. The tortoise and tiring legal race lasted until November 27, 2010 when the Appeal Court Sitting in Ibadan declared the slim, bearded man, the validly elected winner of the election.

In 2007 elections, the people of Osun believed that they rightly voted massively to retain the excellent services of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the Governor until they were robbed by the black market judgement of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan by reversing people’s decision after a three and half years  of good governance in the state.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has since become an opposition party in the state and at Federal level. However, bad governance, cluelessness, ineptitudeness and lack of clear direction that have further impoverished Nigerians have reawaken the agitation for returns of PDP at all levels especially, Osun state.

Nigerians have discovered that the ‘Change’ propaganda sold by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 elections is illusive, fake and unreal. The current high level of insecurity, monumental poverty, record high inflation rate, corruption, fuel scarcity and terribly managed economy are testimonies to lack of capacities of the ruling party to deliver on their promises. Promise of change has simply turned to change of promise.

This is not to say that PDP was perfect but that the party has learned from past mistakes and now rebranded, coupled with the party’s track record in good governance.

Among the many contenders jostling to take over from Governor Rauf Aregbesola is Hon. Tunde Kazeem Adewinmbi.

The young but highly experienced leader has cut a good professional and political name and career for himself.

The cultured, principled and enigmatic leader was discovered by former governor Oyinlola who appointed him as the Caretaker Chairman of Ede North Local Government – one of the biggest local government areas in Osun state.

He bore his vast international and  local experiences on grassroots development and administration on the local government. His empowerment programs and infrastructural development was evidential and second to none. He believed and ran an evidence based system.

His numerous achievements in just one year endeared him to the state governor who appointed him as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in 2008. He served in this capacity till 2010 when the incumbent government took over.

His time in the ministry is still being applauded till date as he  turned around the fortune of the ministry. He was adjudged as the best commissioner of that regime.

Since he was not a political jobber, he returned to his flourishing private business as a SAP Business Analyst. This young and well connected, both home and diaspora man is loved by many and has a particularly cult-like followings especially, among the youth folks and women group in the state.

A man of vast exposure and international experience who has worked with some of the best blue chip companies around the world, both in private and public organisations with various responsibilities in key managerial positions need to be considered seriously to move Osun state forward.

The world is gradually embracing young, passionate, dynamic and innovative leader. This is what Tunde Adewinmbi represents – young with fresh and digital ideas. Just last year, French elected a 39 year old Emmanuel Macron as their President. Sebastian Kurtz, Chancellor of Austria is just 31 and his counterpart, Captain Regent of San Marino, Enrico Carattoni is 32. The idea of gerontocracy is fading out with time.The world is changing and Osun state must not be left behind.

The current #nottooyoungtorun# campaign in the country has further motivated the young, energetic Tunde to seek supports to lead Osun state to a glorious destination that we can all be proud of. He has identified specific needs of the good people of Osun state and ready to respond in a way of giving back to the society.

Tunde Adewinmbi is not just young but well educated. He is an old boy of the famous Government College Ibadan and a Post Graduate holder in Financial  Management from the prestigious Middlesex University, United Kingdom. His financial management expertise has helped him in distinguishing himself as an excellent administrator that believes in human development.

Tunde is a responsible married man with loving kids. He lives in his hometown, Ede and occasionally, Queens land, United Kingdom.
