Institutions Must Start To Celebrate Academic Excellence Like We Do Celebrate Artistes, Comedians, Says FUTA Best Graduating Student

The best graduating student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Master Adebodun Tope Samuel has urged institutions in the country to start celebrating academic excellence as they do to artistes and comedians.
“We must start to celebrate academic excellence like we do to artistes, comedians and others”. No doubt, FUTA is one of the best technology school in Nigeria and I am proud to be part of it”.
Adebodun, who graduated with a CGPA of 4.91 in the 2016/2017 session gave the disclosure on Thursday while giving his valedictory speech at the convocation ceremony of the institution.
No fewer than 206 graduates of the institution have bagged first class degree in different programmes in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions.
Also, over 6,000 students have bagged diploma, First degree and Postgraduate degree programmes, 1,933 students bagged second class Upper, 1,875 with Second Class Lower, while 725 have Third class. Besides, 138 have completed their PhDs.
Adebodun from the department of Applied Geology noted that undergraduates must set their priority right and be disciplined in order to make greater exploits in their studies.
He added that his feats became possible as a result of his patience, hardwork, prayer and commitment in his studies.
While revealing that there are obvious challenges in life, he urged students not to be dettered.
His words: “You must not be in a hurry in life and with your academics, because with patience and discipline, you can achieve alot. Balance life, work hard, work smart and play when needed.”
Also, Olanrewaju Olufunke Janet graduated with a CGPA of 4.91 from the department of Food Science and Technology in the 2017/2018 session.
Olanrewaju revealed that she got admitted into FUTA after three unsuccessful attempts.
She therefore charged her fellow graduated students to be good ambassador of the institution wherever they found themselves.
