Ibadan Family Heads also known as Mogajis under the umbrella of Council of Authentic Mogajis have warned the recently sacked ‘Obas’ by an Oyo State High Court to steer clear of Ibadanland as the tradition requires that any deposed king must leave the town.

They said that the need for the exit of the eight Ibadan High Chiefs and thirteen Baales who were promoted in a controversial manner by Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi as ‘kings’ was necessary because the tradition prescribes that no deposed king would be permitted to live in the same town with a reigning king.

Spokesman of the Authentic Mogajis, Chief Olawale Oladoja while reacting to the Friday’s judgment which declared the action of the state government in the review of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration as illegal, null and void, declared that both the governor and the sacked monarchs must have known the consequences of the ruling traditionally.

Oladoja who spoke on behalf of his colleagues described the ruling as a victory for sons and daughters of Ibadanland, both those who are at home and those in the Diaspora.

He said, “It (the ruling) is a victory for all the sons and daughters of Ibadan land both at home and in the Diaspora.
“They praised the governor for the courage to go to court. It is a welcome idea because he knows the consequence of the court judgment.

“The sacked Obas (kings) also know the consequence, too. Reason is that any Oba sacked by a court and who, as a consequence eventually losses the crown, can no longer live in the same town with a reigning monarch.

“The right thing for such an Oba to do is to leave the city; but we, the authentic Mogajis, are hopeful that before the appeal is decided, there would be fruitful reconciliation of the matter”.
