Just In; 12.4Billion: Osun Govt Issues 7 Days Ultimatum To Tax Defaulters
The Osun Internal Revenue Services (OIRS) on Tuesday said it would commence the criminal prosecution of tax defaulters owing the state government about N12.4 Billion .
The Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Tasks and Revenue Matters ,Barrister Olagbenga Akano, who disclosed this to newsmen during a press conference held in Osogbo on Tuesday, said about N12. 4 Billion was yet to be recovered from tax defaulters .
Akano said that several demands notices had been issued and several meetings held with affected organisations without any fruitfulness.
” Several meetings have been held with affected organisations but it has been a continuous imperviousness and indebtedness.
” We are left with no option than to openly mentioned some tax defaulters who failed to performed their civic responsibilities.” he said.
Some of the tax defaulters according to the S A, include NTA lle-Ife ( N6, 734,886), Globacom Nigeria Limited ( N7,600,595) , O.A.U,(N1,844,770) ,SAMMYA NIGERIA LIMITED (N5,002,567), WETLAND CONSTRUCTION NIGERIA LIMITED( N 8,686,336), 9 Mobiles (N 882,458,475).
Also, Nigeria Custom Services ( N 111,221,381) , Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (N 128,289,909), Nigeria Prison Services (N44, 567, 867), Center for Energy Research and Development (N 42, 393,130), LAPO AGRIC DEVELOPMENT (N 7, 078,313)and KABASON GLOBAL INVESTMENT LIMITED( N 13, 566, 399).
The SA gave the defaulted companies seven days ultimatum to pay their debts or face criminal prosecution according to the constitution.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Baderinwa Adelani, said effort at generating revenue in the state has been so tasking, without relying solely on the Federal Allocation given to the state.
He said taxable person or corporate organisations who failed to filed their tax returns with the OIRS has breached the provisions of the law which is criminal and punishable under tax laws.
Adelani therefore urged the defaulters to pay their tax and other levies to the state government in order not to be included in the criminal prosecution.
