Husband, Accomplice Docked For Wife’s Murder
A 30-year-old man, Sani Bani of Kemanji village, via Kaiama, Kwara State has allegedly conspired with one other man, Salihu Isiaka, 29, to lure his wife to a nearby stream where she was killed.
The duo have been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of Penal Code Law.
The long arm of the law caught up with the accused following a report on March 5, 2018 at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kaiama, Kwara State by one Idris Musa of Bezira village that the accused killed his niece.
According to the complainant, while he was at the farm he got information that his 20-year-old niece, Haddant Abdullahi, was found dead at a stream in Bezira village.
The complainant stated that he strongly suspected one Salihu (second accused) who was the last person seen with the deceased on March 4,2018 at about 10:00pm before her body was later found.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin revealed that Sani (first accused) who was the husband of the deceased conspired with Salihu (second accused) who tricked the deceased out of her parents’ house where she was staying after separation from her husband and took her to the village stream where both of them gruesomely murdered her.
The FIR added that the accused hit the deceased with stone on her chin severally which resulted to her untimely death.
The FIR added that in order to cover-up their evil deed, the accused removed the pant of the deceased so as to create the impression that she was raped to death.
The prosecutor, Zaccheaus Folorunsho, informed the court that the alleged offences for which the accused were brought before the court were capital in nature and were not ordinarily bailable.
He, however, objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The magistrate, Mrs. Jumoke Bello, agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin until March 28 when the case would come up for further mention.
