Akure Metro Rotary Club Donates 75 School Bags, 600 Books To Community In Ondo

Rotary Club of Akure Metro, District 9125, Nigeria in conjunction with Greater Van Nuys Rotary Club, District 5280, CA, USA has donated 75 school bags and 600 exercise books to students of Community High School, Imafon, Ondo State.
The President of the Club, Rotarian Dipo Olajide noted that the gesture was part of its effort to contribute to the upliftment of education in the community.
According to him, the 75 bags were facilitated by the past President of the Club, Rotarian Kehinde Ige through Greater Van Nuys Rotary Club, California, USA while the exercise book were donated by the Assistant Governor, Rotarian Kelvin Meyeyin.
Rotarian Olajide also reeled out some of the various projects embarked upon by the club which include erection of bus stop, signpost and construction of a ward at old Arakale Maternity Centre.
Others include provision of borehole at Akure Psychiatric Hospital, provision of notebooks to Primary schools, water filter projects at Oke Odu among others.
The Olumafon of Imafon, HRM, Oba Adegbehingbe Aliu called on the State Ministry of Education to come to its aid as the community has for the past five years carried the burden of running the school which was initially built by Rotary Club, Akure Main and with government providing other structures over time.
Olumafon who expressed worry at the fact that the State Ministry of Education has refused to accept the school as own used and the present government led by Gov. Akeredolu to take over the school.
“We were on the issue of having a school since the time of Baba Ajasin and we could not do it until Rotary came to our aid. We are calling on the government of the day to help us”, he added.
In his response, the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Femi Agagu who was represented by the Director of School Services, Mr. Fola Dara thanked Rotary Club for donating bags and books to the school stressing that it will go a long way in contributing to the development of education in the state.
The Commissioner who noted that government alone cannot provide finance for education urged other corporate bodies and well to do individuals to take a cue from Rotary and contribute their own quota to the development of education in the state.
