In Osun: Court Remands Woman For Allegedly Killing Her Friend

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State capital has ordered the remand of a 23-year-old woman, Jimoh Simiat in Ilesa prison custody for allegedly killing her friend.

The suspect was alleged to have unlawfully fought one Esther Oge, her friend to death.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Mustapha Tajudeen informed the court that the incident occurred on the 10th of February barely 7:30am around Fountain University area, Osogbo.

CityMirrorNews had reported on the 10th February, 2018 that a dead body, who was recognized to be “Iya Friday” by passersby was found besides the road around Oke Osun in Osogbo.

Explaining what transpired between her and the deceased, the accused person said she only went to her (Esther Oge) house to ask her if truly, she told her new boyfriend that she was a prostitute.

But the daughter of the deceased, Elizabeth Jonathan while giving her own account in the court said Simiat and her mother went out together around 7:30pm, on the 9th February, 2018.

She said her mother did not return back home until the bad new was broken to her that her mother was found dead by the roadside.

Inspector Tajudeen said the offence committed by the accused was contrary to and punishable under Section 316 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State , 2002.

The plea of the accused person was however, not taken due to the magnitude of the offense committed.

Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Tunde Badmus said the court does not have jurisdiction to continue with the case and ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody pending her arraignment at the High Court.

He, then, adjourned the case till 8th of May for mention.
