Three Nursing Mothers, Others Jailed Six Months For Stealing Fowls In Osun

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday sentenced three nursing Mothers and two men to six months imprisonment for stealing fowls worth N3.2 million.

The names of the five convicts according to the charge sheet obtained by our Correspondent are ; Regina Philip (40), Cecilia Ochili (25), Ankara Elisabeth (30) who are all the nursing mothers.

Others are; Odebiyi Yinka 20 and  Ayoola Samson 20.

Magistrate Awodele Modupe, who convicted and sentenced the them said that the prosecutor has proved his case beyond reasonable doubt.

The prosecutor, inspector Taiwo Adegoke had  told the court that the five convicts conspired to commit felony to wit stealing on July 5 2016  at Erin Osun in Osogbo.

He said Odebiyi Yinka and Ayooola Samson stole one thousand six hundred fowls valued 3.2 million belonging to one paystor Mrs Aluko Titilayo Farms in Erin Osun.

Adegoke further explained that the three nursing mothers received five thousand eight hundred fowls from Samson Ayooola and Odebiyi Yinka  knowing fully that it was stolen.

He argued that criminals had committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516, 383, 390(9) and 427 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11, Laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.

Defence Counsel, Mrs B.Y Dada prayed the court to temper justice with mercy on her clients , saying the convicts  have been able to pay 200,000 to the complainant.

She also urged  the court to consider the breastfeeding mothers among the convicts, adding that they have been coming from the prison custody and their husbands are peasant farmers.

Delivering her judgment, the presiding Magistrate sentenced the convicts to six months imprisonment or pay an option of 10,000 each.
