Osun Market Women Embrace ‘Osunwon Omoluabi’

Market men and women in state of Osun have embraced the new measuring and weight scale introducedby state government. 

At a sensitization and training organized by the state Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives and Industries at popular Igbonna market, Osogbo, the state capital, market men and women have started purchasing the new measuring scale tagged “Osunwon Omoluabi for use in the market.

Speaking at the sensitization and training on the use of the new standard scale, the leader of market men who is also the Babaloja of the state, Chief David Iyiola commended the state government under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for the innovation, saying the introduction of the standard measuring scales would assist in averting being cheat.

According to him, the gesture has saved them from cheating and being cheat adding that the use of measuring scales are beneficial to both the sellers and buyers.

While assuring that the market men and women are prepared to embrace the use of standard scale, Iyiola noted that the incessant quarrel which normally acompanied usage of old modes of measuring products had gone forever. 

The State Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Adekunle Jayeoba-Alagbada said that the state has recorded another achievement over the acceptance for usage of the weight and measuring scales describing it as unquantifiable.

He assuring traders from others neighbouring states to come over and patronise markets in the state saying that they will have value for their goods and services. 

Alagbada noted that the acceptance will remove misconception by some stakeholders that government will be determining the price of goods and services for them. 

The Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Commerce,  Hon. Femi Popoola said that there are any gains all stakeholders would gain in using the new standard scale. 

According to him, both the buyers and sellers are to benefit from the project assuring that 48markets had been visited by the officials of the ministry to sensitised the people of its importance.

He warned against contravening the law guaranteed the new scale saying that market associations would deal decisively with anyone that go against it.
