Zone Governorship Slot To Osun West, Or Else … APC Aspirant
The agitation for the zoning of governorship slot to Osun West is increasing by the day, with a frontline Governorship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Honourable Gafar Amere warning that failure to allow the zone to produce the next governor might spell doom for his party in the September 22 governorship election.
A member of the House of Representatives, representing Iwo/Ayedire/Ola Oluwa constituency, Amere said the Senatorial zone had waited enough to produce a governor, having ruled for only 22 months, while the Central Senatorial Zone had ruled for 11 ½ years and East Senatorial Zone ruled for eight years.
He said the agitation has become a movement that would be difficult or impossible to contain if the party made a mistake of presenting a candidate outside Osun West.
“Though, the issue of zoning might not be in the party’s constitution, but it is only fair that the next governor should come from Osun West Senatorial zone which has not ruled the state, except for just 22 months out of the 21½ years of democratic rules in the state.
“Series of researches by independent bodies have clearly shown that the best way for the APC to win the September 22 governorship election is to present a candidate from the West.
“Our party in government under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration has done significantly well in human and capital development and that would count in the coming election but presenting a candidate outside the West might spoilt our chances”, Amere stressed.
Amere then noted that in presenting a candidate from the West Senatorial zone, he stands a better chance of emerging, saying he possesses the capacity to build on the developmental stride of the current administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola who had made significant impacts in the development of the state.
He said he is determined to build on the ongoing developments under the present administration and come up with several other innovations that would make life more abundant for the people of the state.
The federal lawmaker noted that his performance in the National Assembly and impacts on his constituents were clear evidences that he is committed to making lives better for the people of the state.
Amere then advised the aspirants from the West Senatorial zone on the need to join forces and be united with a view to making the agitation a reality.
