Scholarship: Ondo State commission Disburses N213m To 5,393 Students

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) on Monday disbursed N213 million to 5,393 students in oil producing communities under its 2015/2016 bursary and scholarship scheme.

The Chairman of OSOPADEC, Barrister. Gbenga Edema, said that the initiative was to put succour on students who were in various tertiary institutions across the country.

“We are going to start next edition immediately and we are digitalizing gradually and one of our first digitalizing process is this bursary because names of beneficiary are already on our website and this will put stop to our students coming to our commission.

“My advice for you is that don’t use the money to buy handset, use it judiciously, use it for academic related issue”, he added.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was represented by the Special Assistant to governor on Education, Mrs Wunmi Ilawole, reiterated the commitment of the present government to the payment of bursary.

He therefore assured the students that the government would continue to encourage and improve on the educational system, urging them to take their studies seriously and use the money given to them judiciously.

Speaking on behalf of his fellow students, the President, National Association of Ilaje Students (NAIS), Balogun Adeola lauded the state government and the commission for the gesture promising that  the money would be judiciously used to enhance their educational career.

Out of over 7,000 students that applied for the scheme, 5,393 were recommended for the approval. Among the beneficiaries were 199 postgraduate, 2,751 undergraduate, 900 polytechnic students, 581 college of Education, and 962 Health institution.
