Osun APC Youths Reject Zoning Of Governorship Seat, Call On Party To Jettison Idea

A youth wing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, Osun Progressive Youths Alliance (OPYA), has called on the leadership of the party in the state to jettison the idea of zoning the governorship slot to a particular zone, saying all contestants must be given the equal right to contest.

The youths charged all the organs of the APC in the state on the need to take into considerarion the adverse effect of zoning the contest to a particular zone.

CityMirrorNews recalls that since the announcement of the official date for the conduct of gubernatorial election in Osun by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there have been diversified opinions as to whether the contest should be limited only to Osun West or should be open to all contestants across the state.

In a press statement by the Coordinating Head of OPYA, Comrade Adeboye Adebayo in Osogbo, he said the idea of zoning would not give room for a robust contest that would allow superior ideas and capacity to strive for the growths and developments of their party and the State.

According to Adebayo “zoning of political positions is the idea of lazy minds who are afraid of robust contests, such an idea will retard the soaring profile of our party and the growth and developments being witnessed at the moment in the State.

“All Progressives Congress is a coalition of different political groups and interests and this is the first time there will be a serious gubernatorial contests under the platform.

“The second term of Ogbeni Aregbesola came at the formative stage of the party hence, every interested individuals should be allowed to put whatever ideas they have for the growths of the State on the table and allow the party to decide who flies its flags according to the laid down rules of the party’s constitution.

“Zoning should be outrightly jettisoned as it is alien to our party constitution. ” Adebayo said.

Adebayo noted that all the senatorial zones of the state are boastful of great minds who are full of renewed ideas and none should be sacrificed on the altar of zoning as the progress of the state is paramount and anyone with better workable ideas and planning should be allowed to lead.

He said that what should occupy the minds of the lovers of the state now is how to take Osun to the next level of growths and developments.

“Zoning will breed animosity, zoning will deprive our State of the best in terms of capacity for growth and developments, zoning will deprive our party of funds, more funds will be generated for the party if the contest is thrown open and zoning will breed unfairness and inequalities, hence it should be jettisoned. ” he said.

He therefore urged leaders, elders of the party and all other organs of the party to jettison zoning in its entirety for the growths and developments of the party and the State in particular.
