Osun 2018: Ijesa Market Groups Endorse Adeleke
Acceptability of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke got a boost on Tuesday as market groups in Ijesa land threw their weight behind him to assume the givernor’s seat in the state.
The market groups who received Senator Adeleke at their various meeting points at Ilesa, were emphatic in demonstrating their confidence in his capability to lead the state away from the current mishap and exploitative administration.
“You will get there by God’s grace,” Chief (Mrs)Eniola Ogundare, the Yeyerisa of Ijesaland prayed, assuring Senator Adeleke that “We are with PDP, all markets in Ijesa are with you.”
At the Ibara spareparts markets, the association chairman ,Iyiola Alonge with hundreds of his members swarmed the hall to receieve and endorse the PDP candidate.
The Yeyerisa of Ilesa who was accompanied to the meeting by the Iyaloja of Atakumosa, Chief (Mrs) Olabisi Awe, Babaloja, Babatunde Abiola and other top leaders in Ijesa markets, lamented the suffering imposed on market people under the APC government.
“Our people have learnt their lesson and have settled for the PDP because APC has only brought hardship on the people,” she said.
Mrs Ogundare narrated how Governor Rauf Aregbesola turned down several appeal for intervention on the burnt Atakumosa market, adding that the APC government rejected entreaties to approve a letter for market people to access fund from a commercial bank.
“On Atakunmosa market, we need your help. Aregbesola has failed us. Despite the avalanche of promises he made to us on the market, he didn’t fulfil any of it”, she narrates.
She, however, appealed to Senator Adeleke to avert the repeat of Ekiti governorship election scenario by guiding against rigging, assuring him of their votes on September 22.
The mood was similar at the Ibara market, where Ijesa fairly used spare part dealers’ association, declared their supports for Senator Adeleke
As the candidate’s convoy entered the market, a jubilant crowd sang varying support rhymes that expressed their endorsement if his (Adeleke) bid.
The chairman of the spare part dealers, Mr. Alonge, conveyed their readiness to support Senator Adeleke for the top job in Osun state, expressing optimism that voting PDP in September 22 will bring a new lease of life to the state.
He lamented the painful experience members bear due to the economic distress APC government created in the state, noting that their resolve to enthrone a PDP government for a safer tomorrow is unshakeable.
Pointing out why the association is backing PDP in the forthcoming governorship election, Alonge said “When it was Aregbesola’s turn, we backed him and now, it is Adeleke’s turn and we won’t waver.”
Responding to the outpour of supports, Senator Adeleke expressed his appreciation for the endorsements and assured them that he wouldn’t disappoint.
Adeleke said the issues highlighted by the market groups will be addressed if elected as governor, assuring them that his government will discontinue capital flight by embracing local content and local product and service providers.
He asked the people to keep faith in him as “I don’t promise and fail,” adding that he “will give priority to pension arrears and salaries, restructure education of the state for effectiveness, provide jobs for the youths.”
The PDP flagbearer said he will boost Osun state internally generated revenue (IGR) without burdening the people, saying he will use his national and international connections to draw investors and create opportunities for people of the state.
