Just In: Gov Obaseki’s Convoy Involved In Auto Crash, Scores Injured
Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki convoy was on Wednesday involved in multiple accident on Ugbowo Lagos express road, leaving scores injured.
A medical doctor, mother and child who sustained varied degrees of injuries are currently receiving treatments at the Accident and Emergency ward, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), CityMirrorNews learnt.
The accident according CityMirrorNews Correspondent occurred at about 5pm near UBTH in Benin City the state Capital.
A bus assigned to the Press Unit of the state Government House was also involved in the accident.
The convoy was on its way from an official assignment, crashing into a Honda car marked: LAGOS FC291 APP and a Spot Utility Vehicle (SUV) which was also in the convoy.
The driver took to flight after the accident, while the vehicle was reported to have had a break failure.
The state governor, Godwin Obaseki was alleged to have trudgingly left the scene shortly after the accident, indication that there was no empathy and lack of concern.
It was learnt that the action of the governor spoke a language about the personality of the governor who thereafter detailed one of his aides to the injured.
An eye witness, Mrs Oboh Patience, said a nursing mother who had a fractured limb, was picked under the Honda vehicle with her Child who lost his tooth during the accident, were to the hospital.
It could not be confirm as at the time of filing this report, the number of Journalists who were involved in the auto crash.
But, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser, Media and Communication Strategy to the Governor, who confirmed the incident, said no life was lost in the crash.
He disclosed in a statement on Wednesday evening that the state government will undertake the medical bills of all the victims.
Crusoe, in the statement, said: “an official of the state government has been sent to the hospital to ascertain the degree of injuries sustained by the victims and we are also in touch with the doctors managing the victims.
According to him, “A number of people in the bus and three other vehicles that were involved in the accident, including a medical doctor and a mother and child, sustained varied degrees of injuries, and are currently receiving treatments at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
“We have undertaken to pay the medical bills of all the victims. No life was lost”, he said.
