In Oyo: PDP Chieftains Storm Court To Solidarise With Colleague Charged With Murder

Scores of Chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State have commenced an intensive lobby to secure bail for Senator Bisi Ilaka who was charged along with his security aide with the murder of two people in Oyo town recently.
Ilaka ,a Senatorial aspirant in the 2019 election and his aide,Temitayo Olumide appeared before Chief Magistrate Jejelola Ogumbona on Wednesday on a five count charge of conspiracy murder and unlawful possession of gun.
The Magistrate ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody till September 18 this year to enable the state Director of Public Prosecutions advise the court on their trial.
His colleagues in PDP have commenced steps to secure his bail through High court as the Magistrate court has no jurisdiction to try murder case even when he reappears on September ,18.
His counsel, Barr.Abiodun Abdulraheem, prayed the court to grant him bail as the defendant, his client has a medical history of hypertension.
The Magistrate however ordered that the defendants be remanded at Agodi Prison pending the outcome of the case file from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
“The first defendant, Ilaka, should be given free access to see a doctor while in prison for the sake of his hypertension according to his lawyer’s plea,” Magistrate Ogunbona ordered.
She adjourned the case till September 18 for mention.
Ilaka and Alamiyo were in court on five counts of conspiracy, causing death, attempt to kill, conspiracy with one another and unlawful possession of pump action rifle.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Matthew Ojeah, had told the court that Ilaka and Alamiyo allegedly conspired to commit felony and attempted murder.
Ojeah said that Alamiyo, on September 8, attempted to cause the death of Toheeb Olanrewaju, 20, Modinat Adeyemi, 55, and Tijani Lateef, 35, by shooting them with pump action gun.
“Alamiyo was alleged to have also unlawfully attempted to kill one Isiaka Afolabi, 47, by shooting him with pump action gun in the right eye and unlawful possession of pump action rifle,”said.
Recalled that last Saturday at the palace of Alaafin Oyo, the Senatorial aspirant was at Oranmiyan festival when some hoodlums blocked him while leaving the scene in order to collect money from him.
After several abortive efforts to leave,his security aide shot into the air but unfortunately,bullets hit three people two of who died on the spot and a woman among them rushed to the general hospital in the town.
Meanwhile,the Oyo Police Command through its Spokesman Sup.Adekunle Sjisebutu warned all politicians to desist from arming their aides with dangerous guns adding that those who engaged in that would face full wrath of law.
