Ex-Uniosun VC Appointed Asiwaju Odo Of Iwoland
The foremost traditional ruler in Nigeria, Oba (Dr) Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Telu 1 (Oluwo of Iwoland) has appointed former Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Oguntola Jelil ALAMU as ASIWAJU ODO OF IWOLAND.
This appointment has signalled the beginning of a new era for the community given the antecedents of Professor ALAMU as a tested, experienced and exposed technocrat, educationist, engineer and administrator of high pedigree. I believe that Iwoland community is uniquely blessed to have Prof. Alamu as Youth leader at this period of its history and I humbly salute our monarch for this right choice.
Prof. Oguntola Jelil Alamu hails from the Ogunajo and Olaotiipin family in Iwoland. He bagged West African School Certificate ‘O’ level with distinctions in 7 subjects from Baptist High School, Iwo in 1988. He was trained as a Mechanical Engineer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso and the University of Ibadan. He is a member of notable professional organizations including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), Council for Renewable Energy in Nigeria (CREN) and African Wind Energy Association (AFRIWEA).
He is a very experienced university administrator having held various administrative positions at one time or the other in his over eighteen (18) years in the Nigerian University system. He has been a Coordinator of sub-degree programmes, Head of Departments, Dean of Faculty, Director of Academic Planning and recently an Acting Vice-Chancellor at Osun State University. He has been a member of all major statutory Boards and Committees at Federal and State Universities, where he had worked. He is a Pioneer; who had established and nurtured various academic programmes for Universities in Nigeria. Professor Alamu had also served on the Governing Council of Osun State University.
Professor Alamu is a scholar of note. He has taught students and supervised research work at undergraduate and graduate levels. He is an external examiner to six (6) Nigerian Universities. He is an accomplished researcher, whose efforts have resulted in over 50 scholarly works published both locally and in high impact international journals of repute as well as over 30 national and international conference presentations.
His research prowess was evident through one of his publications, which earned global ranking from ScienceDirect (Elsevier) as one of the “Top 25 most downloaded Articles” in Fuel. He has travelled far and wide and has attracted a number of grants to the University. To the glory of God, more than 450 different research publications, authored by over 1000 researchers across the globe, have made reference to his research findings and cited his publications.
In the ranking of scientists in Nigeria Institutions according to their Google Scholar Citations public profiles released by Cybermetric Lab., Spain in March 2015, Prof.Alamu Oguntola Jelil was ranked amongst top 500 researchers; emerging as the highest ranked Scientist from Osun State University at that time.
He has also rendered services to the community at state, national and international levels. He was a participant at the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Review in 2011. He has served as a State Inspector for the conduct of West African School Certificate Examinations and recently as the Chairman, Committee on the Repositioning of Tertiary Institutions in Osun State, Nigeria.
He has been an active participant at various programmes of Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). He participated at the 2016 International Quality Assurance for Higher Education held at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
Professor Alamu was conferred with Award of Academic Excellence by the LAUTECH Alumni Association for breaking the record as the First Alumnus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology to become a Professor. He was also decorated with Distinguished Personality Award by LAUTECH Muslim Graduate Association (LAUMGA). He equally bagged Productive Visionary Leader of Action Gold Award from Centre for Productive Visionary Leadership in Abuja. He was honoured with Merit Award by Baptist High School, Iwo Old Students Association (SOSAHIB).
He was conferred with Special Award by the Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) in 2015. He was decorated as Fellow of The International Chattered World Learned Society. Other notable awards include Appreciation Award by the Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS), Award of Recognition by the Osogbo Central Lions Club, Award of Excellence by the Uniosun Ejigbo Chapter of the National Association of Osun State Students, Award of Excellence by the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin Chapter of the National Association of Osun State Students, Distinguished Award by Diabetes Research Consortium (SIDCAIN), Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Special Award of Excellence by the Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Appreciation Award by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Award of Excellence by the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Award of Excellence by the Federation of Iwoland Students Union (FILSU), Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin Chapter. He was honoured as the first recipient of/inductee into Hall of Fame by FILSU National Headquarters, Iwo.
He is a member of Allahu Mo’iy International Society. He is also Board member of Albayan International Foundation (AIF) with His Royal Majesty, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude Tegbosun III (Olowu of Kuta Kingdom) as Board Chairman. He was honoured as “AgbesingaAdeen” by Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Iwo branch and conferred with an Award of Excellence by AllahuMo’iy International. Chief (El-Hadj) Oguntola Jelil Alamu is happily married and blessed with children.
