PDP Group Knocks Akeredolu For Persistence On Tuition Hike

Following the arrest of protesting students of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko during the third day of their demonstration against tuition hike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Grassroots Mobilizers, Ondo state chapter has decried the arrest as great show of insensitive to the plights of the masses.
The protesting students and parents were yesterday arrested by men of the Nigeria Police for allegedly attacking convoys of some top government’s officials during the protest.
Not less than 46 students were arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph who confirmed the arrest, said the arrested students would soon be charged to court.
Some of the students who spoke with Journalists in Akure alleged that police opened fire and teargas on them near governor’s office at Alagbaka Akure during the protest.
In a Press Release issued and signed by the state Coordinator and Secretary, Ondo PDP Grassroots Mobilizers, Comrade Kunle Ajibogun and Femi Ogunleye respectively, they called on the state government and the police to quickly release the arrested students and market women.
The PDP group also called for the review of the hiked fees in order to allow peace to reign in the state.
The statement reads further, “We therefore call on the present administration in Ondo state under the leadership of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to rise up to the occasion and stop been docile in governance.
“Those arrested students and market women should be release, rather for Gov. Akeredolu to keep silence on the matter and playing politics with lives and future of the citizenry.
“The current situation in the state needs quick intervention of all genuine and reasonable leaders to save the situation”.
