Ekiti Governorship Election: Armed Policemen Disrupt PDP Rally

Ahead of the Saturday July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State, armed policemen have disrupted a political rally organised by members and supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The rally tagged a “victory walk” for Kolapo Olusola Eleka, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party was being organised by incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Supporters of the PDP had trooped en mass to the pavilion close to the INEC road in Ado Ekiti awaiting Governor Fayose when the rally was disrupted by the police.
It was gathered that the armed mobile policemen who shot sporadically in the air scared away many supporters of the party who were all clad in white dresses.
The supporters of the ruling PDP had all moved en mass from old governor’s office along “Oke Ayoba” before the rioting policemen laid a seige and shot a teargas canisters.
One of the personal assistant to the governor identified as Sola was also teargas and beaten to pulp by the armed policemen.
Heavy security have been beefed up around some strategic locations of the state mostly adjourning streets to the governor’s house.
