Alternative Political Ideology, Panacea To Socio-Economic Debacle In Osun-Otunba Oladeji
A leading Gubernatorial aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, Otunba Yemisi Oladeji has insisted that the only way out of array of socio-economic problems in Osun State is the entrenchment of viable and alternative political ideology, different from that of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC).
He explained that the present condition of the economy of the state, and it’s social status reflect an abysmal socio-economic life in the state, saying there must be a radical change of political order to save the situation.
Oladeji averred that the experience of the people in the state in the last two decades suggest that neither APC nor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) possesses the requisite political ideology to turn around the lives of the people.
The gubernatorial aspirant made the submission on the sideline of his endorsement and inauguration as the governorship candidate on the platform of Social Democratic Party(SDP) on Saturday, asserting that the ruling APC by its policy statement lacks the inherent ideology to prioritise the welfare of the people, especially the workers.
According to him, the economic predicament that befell the state as a result of shortfall in the monthly allocations to states due to glut in the world oil market exposed lack of proactiveness and economic acumen on the part of Aregbesola led administration.
The financial expert added that with the level of natural endowment and human capital in the state, the sudden drop in the monthly allocations to the state ought not to have had that degree of adverse effect on the economy of the state if there was proper instrument to annex the state’s resources.
He further said that the welfare and security of the people in the state has been treated as “alternative forgone” adding that the people deserved better and more viable political ideology that is masses-oriented and basically sensitive to the plights of the people.
“I am practically convinced that the state of Osun economy and socio-political condition required urgent change in political paradigm, and total change of order.
It is indisputably correct to say, that the ruling APC lacks the consciousness to recognise problems before it become an emergency, and that laxity really spelt a doom for the state in no small way.
“Going by the performances of the two leading political parties in the state since 1991, it is more obvious now that the solution to socio- economic challenges in the state does not lie within the APC or PDP, but a robust political ideology as an alternative.
“Of course, the essence of government in any clime is the welfare and security of the people, any government that fails to take these as a priority should not be allowed to fester.
“No party ideology could be said to be popular if it fails to set an agenda for welfare of the people and the ultimate realisation of their potentials at the long run, this invariably make “real change ” in the state completely inevitable”, Oladeji resorted.
He however enjoined electorate in the state to brace up and work towards a new political culture that would engender development and speedy growth.
“It is my hope that together we can turn around the fortunes of our state through a masses-friendly policies and ideas without waste and with emphasis on local content to prevent capital flight”.
