FRSC Arrests 287 Traffic Offenders, Impounds 190 Vehicles In Akwa Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom arrested 287 road traffic offenders and Impounded 190 vehicles in the state during its Easter special operation.

The Akwa Ibom Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Sunday Oghenekaro, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo on Sunday.
Oghenekaro said that the 287 offenders arrested between March 28 and April 3 committed 331 traffic offences while two road crashes occurred during the period, involving seven victims.
“During the period, 67 traffic offenders were arraigned in the mobile court and 60 convicted with option to pay fines while seven were discharged accordingly.
“Excessive speed, dangerous and reckless driving as well as drunkenness are major causes of road accidents. Drivers should avoid these and begin their journeys on time,” Oghenekaro cautioned.
The sector commander further cautioned drivers against speeding during rainfall, use of worn-out tyres and use of cell phones while driving.
He said the command would continue to enlighten the public on the consequences of traffic rule violation.
He emphasized the need for all road users to obey traffic rules to ensure safety of their lives.
Oghenekaro recommended the Highway Code to all homes, places of worship and schools as a measure to enlighten the public and reduce road crashes in the country.
