Rinsola Abiola is set to test the murky political waters in Nigeria as she pitches her tent with the ADP. MKO Abiola.

The Special Assistant to the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and a daughter of the late winner of 1993 Presidential election , MKO Abiola, Rinsola has joined the Action Democratic Party (ADP) a week after he dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Rinsola who is also a gender and youth activist led 500 people, mostly youths and women, into the Ogun State chapter of ADP during a tour of Abeokuta North local government branch of the party.

While addressing members of the party, Rinsola said that her decision to join ADP was informed by the party’s favourable disposition towards women and youth inclusion, as enshrined in its constitution.

She said “I have always advocated for women and youth inclusion in politics and this is why I decided that going forward, the choice of which party I join will be informed by their commitment towards ensuring youth and women participation.

“It was, therefore, delightful to find that the ADP constitution makes women and youth representation compulsory in all party organs at both state and national levels.

“This shows that the advocacy for enhanced representation is one that can yield results provided the will to do the needful is present.”

Rinsola, who played an active role in the 2015 Presidential Campaign, was a member of the Board of Trustees of the ruling party until she relinquished membership of the APC last week.

In a letter to the leadership of the party, she cited “tyranny and injustice” and “undemocratic principles” limiting youth and women participation as reason for quitting the party.
