Burglary: Man Jailed 28 Months In Osun

A 33-year-old man, Abdulfatai Qummarudeen  has been convicted and sentenced  to 28 month imprisonment for stealing.

The convict was arraigned on Tuesday before an Osun State magistrate court Osogbo, which was presided over by chief Mr Tunde Badmus  on a two-count charge bordering on Conspiracy, stealing and house burgling.

The prosecutor Sargent Lamidi Rasaq told the court that the convict and others at large committed the offense on May 11, 2017 at about 1.30 am at Ago Jesu in Osogbo.

He said  the convict broke into the house of one Oyebola Johnson Olarewaju with intent to commit felony.

Prosecutor further explained that the convict carted away cash sum of N150,000 and other valuable items in the house.

Some of the items  stole  by the convict according to the prosecutor  are; Galaxy Samsung S7 phone, one bontel phone, one traveling bag, complete male dress and one Hp laptop computer, valued at 800,5000.

Rasaq said the police were able to recover some of the items, adding that recovered items have been released to the complainant on bound while the convict sold the rest.

He also tendered the statement of the convict and the complainant as exhibits.

Rasaq submitted that the offense contravene Section 410 punishable under Section 411 and Section 383 punishable under Section 390 (9) of the critminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11.Laws of Osun State 2003.

The convict pleaded guilty to the two count charge  just as he admitted to the fact of the case.

The defense counsel Mr Okobe Najite urged the court to temper justice with mercy on his client.

Handling down his judgement, Magistrate Badmus said the prosecutor has proved his case beyond reasonable doubt.

He thereafter  convicted Qummarudeen on self admittance and  sentenced  him to 16 month imprisonment on first count  or to pay a fine of N10,000 and 12 month imprisonment on count two without an option of fine.
