Securing Osun Remains My Top Priority – Aregbesola
Osun state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has again reiterated the commitment of his administration to the protection of lives and properties, just as he stated that the primary objective of any responsible government is to maintain peace in the society.
Aregbesola stated this on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the harmonized motorcycle riders union made up of (MTUN & ACOMORAN) held at the state secretariat, Abere.
Speaking at the programme which was also used to launch the “State ticket” and “Special Omoluabi Cards” for the riders, Aregbesola said the harmonisation and inauguration became necessary so as to nip in the bud the crimes being perpetrated by some miscreants in the business of using motorcycle to earn their living.
He said the unique numbered jackets that will be given to each rider as a result of the harmonisation will go a long way in helping to curb the incidence of criminals disguising as commercial motorcycle riders to perpatrate crimes.
According to Aregbesola, “we don’t want your association to be scrapped, we did this so as to fish out the miscreants disguising as your members to wreck harvock on innocent commutters.
“A lot of havoc has been done to unsuspecting commuters in the society and through this that we are doing today there will be more security in our state and it will make your job even more descent.
“It should concern you and give you serious worry that some miscreants are causing havoc in our society using your job.
“We don’t want your association to be scrapped, otherwise that would have been the first option in a bid to secure our people, but we believe that you will cooperate with us on the strategies that we have adopted in a bid to expose the criminals disguising as your members.
“This programme is also being used to launch the state tickets for your members. With this ticket, you will be able to play your own role in supporting government to continue to provide basic amenities for you. The special Omoluabi cards is also part of the security measures we are talking about, with it you can identify yourselves.”
In an address, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Kazeem Salami who noted that the motorcycle riders contribute to the economic growth of the state through their services, said government means well for them, hence the need for the official inauguration.
He explained that the official inauguration will assist government in relating better with them and know their exact needs in a bid to assisting them like other contributors to the growth of the state.
He said, “this inauguration has redefined your job, you are contributors to the growth and development of our state and government needs to relate with you and know your needs. It is now possible, you are now stakeholders with government”.
The commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives and Industry, Mr Jayeoba Alagbada and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tax Matters, Barr. Gbenga Akano also used the occasion to enlighten the riders on the need to embrace the special Omoluabi cards and state tickets being introduced.
