Policemen, 5 Others Die As Robbers Raid 5 Banks In Offa

Residents of Offa town in Kwara State were, Thursday, jotted by the sound of gunshots by dare devil armed robbers that attacked five first generation banks in the town which left four policemen and six civilians dead.
Besides the dead, no fewer than three people said to have sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatments at an undisclosed hospital.
The raided banks according to CityMirrorNews correspondent who was at the scene of incident after the robbery attack are: GTBank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, Eco Bank and Union bank.
It was gathered that the robbers on arrival in the town through Ijagbo road reportedly drove straight to the main Police station close to one of the banks and started shooting sporadically to register their presence and also to scare people from the area.
An eyewitness disclosed that four Policemen on duty were killed by the robbers before heading to the Banks .
“They were able to cart away a substantial amount of money from the bank’s vault.”
“It was gathered three passersby were said to have been hit by the stray bullets, just as they also killed a yet to be identified commercial Motorcyclist, who was said to have gone there to withdraw cash.”
The raid on the five Banks was said to have lasted for about an hour leaving the helpless people of the town and travellers scampering for safety.
