2019 Polls: Ondo APC Adopts Indirect Primary

As 2019 general elections hot up, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has adopted indirect primary election in the state.

The APC adopted the process during its Stakeholders meeting on Wednesday which was held at the party’s secretariat in Akure and attended by the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his deputy, the Speaker, leaders of the party among others.

At the meeting, the APC chairman in the state, Engr. Ade Adetimehin acknowledged the process saying that it was only indirect primary could unite the party as a family.

The motion was moved by the state Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, while Chief Simeon Ogunleye from Owo Local Government Area seconded the motion and it was unanimously adopted by the all party members.

While addressing journalists on how they arrived to the conclusion on indirect primaries elections, the serving Senator, representing Ondo Central District, Omotayo Alasoadura said, “Our meeting after three hours, we arrived in conclusion that all elections that has to do with House of Representatives, Senate and state House of Assembly should be conducted as indirect primaries in the state because those that have just joined the party didn’t have membership cards.

Also, “we unanimously adopted that any elections that will be conducted in the state shall be indirect exercise, because party has no documents to back up the direct primaries and that’s why we arrived to indirect primaries in Ondo State.

“Direct primary is evil, is another form of corruption, is unacceptable in Ondo State, direct primary is going to spoil our party that’s why we didn’t accept it.

“The lives of the citizens is so precious to us, we are to protect them, we do not want any violence and that’s why we unanimously adopted that any elections should now be conducted indirect.

“The logistic and security aspect of direct primaries is going to cause crisis in our state”.
