Osun Partners Rotary International To Thwart Maternal And Child Mortality Rate
In a bid to reduce the maternal and child mortality rate in Osun State, the government of the has declared its readiness to partner with Rotary International.
The government also promised to make drastic improvements to the health of children and young people
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu at a meeting with representatives of Rotary International vowed that the state government would do everything it can to reduce avoidable deaths.
Expressing commitment with the Rotary International to thwart the menace of Maternal And Child Mortality Rate in the state, Isamotu noted that government has put in place programmes targeted at reducing maternal and child morality rate.
According to him, government has ensured that equipments are updated and functional in health facilities across the state adding that it is the duty of government to check unnecessary death among mothers before, during and after birth and prevent infants mortality rate.
The commissioner disclosed that government has procured enough scanners for expectant mothers for distribution to health facilities across the state adding that medical personnels are already being trained for deployment to utilize the machines in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
Besides, Isamotu said Osun State is not lagging behind in immunization against killer diseases, maternal neonatal child health week, prosecution of Safe motherhood exercise, distribution of mama kit, de worming and distribution of long lasting insecticidal net.
He also informed his guests that the state government will not take the death of any individual particularly in both government and private health facilities in the state for granted.
Earlier, the Rotary International team leader, Professor Emmanuel Adedolapo Lufadeju who is also the National Coordinator of Rotary International on Maternal and Child Care disclosed that their mission was to collaborate with Osun State government to checkmate maternal and child mortality.
Professor Lufadeju who admitted that child and maternal mortality rate is not pronounced in Osun however said government should not play with data collection especially in the area of birth and death records.
He promised to assist Osun government to benefit from various national and international programmes and projects embarked by Rotary International but urged them to collaborate in the area of counterpart funding where required.
