Osun Needs Tax Money To Survive–APC
The All Progressives Congress in Osun state has made a strong appeal to citizens of the state to take the responsibility of paying their tax seriously, ‘because without tax, no government or people can survive’.
According to the party, ‘the most successful government in Yorubaland led by our own Legendary, Chief Obafemi Awolowo depended on taxes to provide free education, free medical care and the numerous farm settlements which made the old Western Region the greatest and best in Nigeria.
‘If the people of Osun want this state to outclass many others in the country, they owe it a duty to themselves, their children and grandchildren to pay their taxes regularly.
In a New Year appeal to the people of Osun contained in a statement from the party’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, the APC said that ‘no government takes lightly the issue of taxation in the whole world.
‘Today, the most successful state in Nigeria is Lagos that can exist comfortably without federal allocation from Abuja. This is because on the average, Lagosians pay a whooping N30 billion in taxes every month.
‘The reason taxes are paid is to build roads, schools, provide water, electricity and other social amenities’, the party argued, adding that, ‘if there are no tax revenue, the state can hardly find the means even to develop its natural resources.
‘That’s the more reason we appeal to the good people of Osun to, at least, follow the example of Lagos, where people willingly pay their taxes to make Lagos greater than any other state of the Federation.
‘Osun can be a great community within its own capability if people pay their taxes. This is the surest way to secure the future of our children and people of the state itself.
‘To make Osun greater than it is today, the people should unite and take on their individual responsibilities in tax obligations whether as individuals or business institutions.
‘In this great effort, the traditional rulers also have a big role to play in urging their people to be responsible and pay up their taxes as and when due – Osun a dara si o!’, the APC concluded
