NGO Advocates True And Transparent Political Change, Seeks International Partnership
A Non-Governmental Organization- Societal, Cultural values and Development Initiative (SCDI) has advocated true and transparent politics capable of changing from money to people oriented based politics in Nigeria.
In a communiqué issued and signed by its Chairman, Professor Samuel Ibiyemi and Secretary, Reverend Gabriel Olaoye, the group also seeks for partnership with international organizations/agencies for pre-election advocacy as it noted with great delight the good intentions of the USA Government, the European Union, Canadian Government and Asian countries Governments who have always supported Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for good and credible performances to enshrine good and credible governance in Nigeria. The groups have always served as observers to ensure sanity in the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
It said, “We seek to partner with the groups. We believe we can be empowered to add values to their efforts if they shall empower us as grass root organization already working with National Orientation Agency (NOA), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security establishments and the political parties, identified as APC, PDP and IPAC in Kwara State on what shall be done for effective education of the electorates, particularly the less privileged, the youths and women.
“We have plans to organize seminars at three levels in the immediate. The first shall be in Ilorin for the education and awareness in the people who will serve as trainers in their states, LGAs and wards. The theme of our program is on “Reducing the overall cost of conducting elections by instituting efficient moral-based pre-elections rather than money influenced politics
.” We believe that with good seminars between 15 and 30th August 2018, the youths and women we target shall mould the minds and psychology of more than 80% of voters nation-wide.
“One major message of the program is to motivate the youths, particularly the graduates to take advantage of the new provision “the young can run in elections”. We believe that with good coordination the 3rd party we envisage from IPAC and CPP, as the money politicians opt from APC to PDP, youths can come together, master-mind their destiny and develop the 3rd option to save Nigeria.
“Education and information shall readily out-play money in politics. This is the focal point of our mission. At this point, we seek for explanation for the 7-point conditions by the new APC that deflected from APC to PDP. How many of them were not in PDP in the 2011 elections? Are they for the masses? What values did they add to make the 8th assembly credible for its people benefits? There are many more questions to treat at the seminars.
“If we are financed immediately, we are ready to work such that NOA and INEC will work out a rescheduled INEC time-table for August only, to accommodate the impact the new restructuring in the 3rd party in particular and APC and PDP may bring about for better and credible intra-party activities.
“As a developing nation, Nigeria is seriously threatened to disintegrate if immediate care is not taken now. We recognize the escalating turbulent political immaturity as evident in: money politics, spate of decamping by politicians with impunity”
It described money politics as assuming increasingly worsening embarrassment with succeeding elections since 2015 while they expressed concerned that decamping tends to potent great threat to the sovereignty of the nation and so called for an early stop to this disgraceful display of immaturity.
Going historical lane, the group said that there was decamping in 2014 but the scale now, 2018, is worrisome. The politicians decamping may score a point by their intent to rubbish the party that voted them to position and may want to celebrate success in changing the p arty with minority control to be the majority in the national assembly.
