It was indeed a return of hope to some aged men, women, traders, farmers as well as village chiefs, who were suffering from eye defects when a non-governmental organisation, Favour, Kindness and Grace Foundation assisted them to undergo glaucoma and cataract surgeries.

No fewer than 220 Osun indigenes from 15 different communities of 10 local government areas in Osun West Senatorial district were brought from Osun to the Eye Foundation Hospital, Ijebu- Mushin, Ogun State to undergo the surgeries.

It was gathered that the beneficiaries were selected after the foundation organised a health outreach in all the local government areas in Osun West senatorial district, where over 27,000 participants were screened.

Of the number, only 300 people were discovered to be suffering from glaucoma and cataract.

A health expert in Eye Foundation Hospital revealed that most of the beneficiaries were suffering from cataract.

Apart from embarking on glaucoma and cataract surgeries on 220 beneficiaries, the NGO has also distributed about 15,000 eye glasses to people whose eye challenges are still at the preliminary stages. The foundation has also provided drugs for some of them so as to control the diseases.

It was further gathered that the Favour, Kindness and Grace Foundation which was founded by Omo Oba Dotun Babayemi about five years ago has, since inception, been assisting and intervening in health of people at the grassroots.

Speaking after the first session of operation was done, Babayemi said the foundation was more concerned in interventions in the health challenges of people at the grassroots.

He said: “220 people came for glaucoma and cataract surgeries here at the Eye Foundation Hospital, Ijebu-Mushin in Ogun State from Osun State because we discovered that Eye Foundation has the latest eye facilities and equipment that could be compared to ones in the UK and the US.
