2019 Polls: APC Rejects Akeredolu’s Annoited Senatorial Candidates, Clears Boroffice, Omogunwa Others Unopposed
By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
The National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC has cleared unopposed the three incumbents senators from Ondo State, Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North), Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo Central) and Yele Omogunwa (Ondo South) as candidates ahead of the 2019 general elections.
NWC however disqualified all aspirants believed to be preferred candidates of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the primaries from Ondo state in next year’s general elections.
This was contained in the list of cleared aspirants released by the National Working Committee and signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena.
Among those who were not cleared are Chairman of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Governing Council, Tunji Abayomi, former House of Assembly Speaker, Victor Olabimtan, Ondo representative on the NDDC Board, Lucky Ayedatiwa, Morayo Lebi, Pastor Jide Ipinsagba, Gbenga Elegbeleye,
Dr. Adeoye Julius Olatunji Felder, Mr. Odunayo Akinrinsola and Engr Janet Febisola.
However, no reason was given for their disqualification.
The National Working Committee of the party has also postponed the senate primary elections slated for today till tomorrow Wednesday.
It was learnt that the disqualification has reportedly caused confusion in the camps of Akeredolu and the party Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin said to be his hatchet man for the emergence of the preferred candidates.
While reacting to the development, Adetimehin said, “The NWC cannot do that too, they believe in democracy and whoever believes in direct primary they should give fear hearing to other people to contest and that is the essence of giving us direct primary. Now why are they giving us indirect primary again. Initially we ask for indirect, we want people to participate, to chose whoever they like by that everybody will go to field to contest that is the only way to get true democracy and to get best candidate.
“They should allow people to exercise their right, you don’t deny people their right, it is their right to contest primary, why are they disqualified them, are they afraid direct primary again when they asked for it. It is their right to contest the primary.
