Osun NAWOJ Urges Husband’s to Support Wives in Promoting Breastfeeding
As World Breastfeeding Week starts today, fathers have been urged to give every necessary support to their wives for them to be an ambassador of exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of child bearing.
This was contained in a press release signed by the chairperson and secretary of Osun state chapter of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo and Mrs Florence Babasola respectively.
According to NAWOJ, breasts have all the nutrients and fluids babies need in their first six months, but requires a stable mind and well-fed mother to satisfy them within the stipulated period.
In their words, “Breast milk acts as a babies’ first vaccine, providing them a vital shield of protection against disease, hence, the need for mothers to ensure adequacy of this nature’s best endowment to life, especially in the first six moths of childbirth.
“Fathers should be supportive in the area of providing for their homes because the mother of the new born needs balanced diets in order to feed the baby very well.
“Mothers also should be creative in the area of managing whatever fathers are able to put on the table, considering the poor economic situation ravaging the country presently”.
NAWOJ however stressed the need for adequate monitoring of both newborns and older ones at this period of long vacation and prayed for divine protection of God on our children.
