May Day: Aregbesola Appreciates Workers’ Support, Urges Them To Support His Successor
Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday appreciated workers in the state for their steadfastness and support in his bid to transform the state to the greater heights.
He however urged them to support his successor in order to have a smooth and successful administration in the state.
Aregbesola gave the appreciation while delivering his speech, during the workers’ Day celebration at the Osogbo township stadium, Osogbo.
The governor said this year’s Workers’ Day was special to him, as it would be the last by his administration, and so, used the occasion to specially thanked workers in the state for their support, steadfastness and sacrifice which has led to the success of his administration.
Aregbesola said without workers , there is no government and so thanked the workers for the support they had been giving to his administration, calling on them to accord the same cooperation and support to his successor.
He further explained that due to the state labour unions demand, he has consented and lifted the brace on workers in the state, as workers would now be converted and promoted as at when due.
He however called on workers to improve on their productivity, stressing that going on strike must not be for their selfish interest along as they need to justify the wages they are demanding and earning.
In his May Day speech, Mr Jacob Adekomi, Osun Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) appreciated the governor for not laying off workers, during the financial turbulence period of the state and also acceding to some of the workers demands.
WAdekomi said when the governor came into power in 2010, he ask for the support and cooperation of the state workers, which he said was given to him.
He said the cooperation and sacrifices of workers was led to the successes recorded by the state administration in the areas of roads, schools and social infrastructure development in the state.
He however called on the governor to turn the workers’ day to a season of harvest for the workers and pensioners for their sacrifices, which he stressed led to so much successes recorded by state government.
He said the workers of the start were looking forward to full payment of salary by the governor to workers and pensioners, as well as payment of arears of modulated salaries, presently being paid workers in the state
