Aregbesola’s Wife Presents Gifts To First Baby Of The Year In Osun
Wife of Osun State Governor, Sherifat Aregbesola on Monday presented gifts to first baby of the year in Osogbo, Osun state capital.
The first lady who stormed the State Hospital, located at Asubiaro Area in her usual way of welcoming new baby presented the cash and gift items to the 2018 first baby and other babies in the hospital.
Mrs Aregbesola who was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu and other senior officials of the ministry of health and top government functionaries took time off to play with the baby.
The annual First- Baby- Of-The-Year celebration started in 2010 and the Office of the First Lady, through the initiative, celebrates the first baby born from 12 midnight on new year’s eve.
The first lady rejoiced with the parents of the lucky child and showered the child with prayers and also presented gifts to the family.
The Parents of First Baby, Mr and Mrs Okewumi Abodun expressed gratitude to the wife of the governor for her gesture as they received the gifts on behalf of the baby.
The father of the baby, Mr Abiodun lauded the initiative of the wife of the governor and expressed appreciation to her for the gifts.
The wife of the governor said she was happy that she was able to sustain the programme in the past eight years and promised to continue doing it after the administration of her husband.
According to her: “I have been doing things like this before my husband became governor. I’m happy and grateful to God that I was able to sustain it since we started eight years ago. I will keep it up even after the administration. I feel very elated that we are here today for the last one under this administration.”
Mrs Aregbesola also used the occasion to appeal to the parents on the need for them always give proper care to their children, saying they are the future’s leaders.
She urged mothers to always immunize their children against killer diseases.
According to the first lady , it was important for mothers to always ensure that children have the full complement of routine immunization, while expectant mothers should always attend ante and post natal clinics.
Mrs Aregbesola also urged women in Nigeria to put an end to the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation in the country.
She called on all and sundry to join hands to take the campaign against the act to various communities, churches, mosques and offices in Nigeria
The wife of the governor also presented gifts to other new mothers at the hospital. All the women at the maternity ward expressed appreciation to the fist lady
