I Will Sign Death Warrant For Anyone Convicted Of Murder-Niger Gov
By Saka Bolaji, Minna
Following the heightening cases of insecurity accompanied by loss of lives, the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has vowed to sigN the death warrant for anyone convicted of murder in relation to the crises.
In the last couple of months not less than 30 lives have been lost to various crises on some flimsy grounds.
Apparently disturbed by the large number of lives lost and property destroyed as a result of the disturbances, Governor Sani said his administration would do everything possible to secure the lives and properties of peace loving people of the state.
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, the Governor said: “I will sign the death warrant for anyone convicted of murder, I will not even blink. I will sign and sleep well”.
The governor also warned that anyone caught promoting crisis in the state “would be made an example”.
He alleged that some influential people, religious leaders and politicians were behind the series of disturbances in the state, saying that the last crisis at Sabon-daga led to the destruction 30 Gbagyi houses and 20 Fulani huts.
“We pray for these people to repent, if they don’t, we pray God to destroy them because they are our enemy, our collective interest is greater than their individual interest”, he prayed.
He chastised the sponsors of the disturbances for making use of innocent poor people, majority of who are children while hiding theirs in air conditioned houses or send them abroad.
The governor said: “I don’t believe any responsible person will tell other people’s children to go and burn down homes. Some people don’t have compassion or feeling. Some don’t care if this entire city is burnt down in one day.”
Governor Bello therefore urged parents, guardians, community leaders and major stakeholders to pay attention to those that come to their communities and report any suspicious movement.
