LG Poll: Lagos APC Primaries Turn Bloody, Council Secretariat Razed
The primary election of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) to choose candidates to contest the local government election on Saturday was marred by violence.
Violence erupted at the primaries election when the Party’s electoral chairman, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi began to announce “consensus” candidates already endorsed by the party.
Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other party leaders had few weeks ago announced the names of 18 aspirants as consensus candidates of the Party in their respective local government.
This did not go down well with opposing aspirants to some of those being called and their supporters resorted to violence.
Broken bottles, plastic chairs, woods, stones, bottle water and sachet water were some of the weapons used to chase VIP delegates and other supporters out of the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, where the primaries were being held.
CityMirrorNews learnt that the violence escalated to burning of the administrative block of Amuwo -Odofin local government Area of the state by hoodlums.
The building was reportedly set on fire around 1:30am.
It was gathered that the emergence of an anointed candidate of the former chairman of the local government, Ayodele Adewale, who is a Tinubu loyalist, ignited the violence protest from party members.
Adewale’s preferred candidate, Valentine Buraimoh emerged victorious at the primaries election, defeating other 29 aspirants.
